On Thursday, immigrants in Boston who had finished the process of becoming US citizens, and who were moments away from being sworn, were told by immigration officials that their oath ceremony was cancelled due to President Trump's ban on immigrants from certain countries. US Citizenship and Immigration Services, or USCIS, has directed its employees to halt all immigration applications for people from the 19 mostly African and Asian countries that President Donald Trump has designated as "high-risk." Kristi Noem, Chief of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), said, "I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that's been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies. Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom - not for foreign invaders." A DHS spokesperson said that they are "making every effort to ensure individuals becoming citizens are the best of the best. Citizenship is a privilege, not a right. We will take no chances when the future of our nation is at stake."
