Description

In St. Paul, Minnesota, protesters entered a church after learning that the pastor is also the ICE officer that is overseeing the Trump administration's attacks on Minnesota. David Easterwood is a pastor at Cities Church in St. Paul and the Acting Field Office Director for ICE in St. Paul. He oversees Operation Metro Surge, which is currently flooding Minnesota neighborhoods with thousands of ICE agents and carrying out mass arrests and deportations. On Sunday, around 40 protesters entered the church during service and denounced Easterwood's dual role. The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the protest for potential federal civil rights violations, including the FACE Act, which prohibits interfering with people receiving reproductive health services or exercising religious freedom at a place of worship. The FACE act has always been criticized by conservatives, because it protects people at reproductive health centers. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem promised arrests of protesters. Cities Church condemned the protest as a "shameful, unlawful" desecration of worship.
