On Thursday, the British High Court ruled that the UK government's designation of the activist group Palestine Action as a "terrorist" organization was unlawful. Palestine Action is a protest movement with the primary goal to disrupt the Israeli military supply chain by physically targeting companies that are complicit in the occupation of Palestine. Their main target is Elbit Systems, Israel's largest weapons manufacturer, which has a significant presence in the UK. Palestine Action has succeeded in forcing the closure of at least one Elbit factory by way of destroying equipment inside the factory. In July of 2025, the UK government designated the group as a "proscribed" organization, which would be similar to declaring it a terrorist organization in the US. Under proscription, all members of the group, as well as anyone showing any kind of support for it, such as wearing a t-shirt with the name, can be arrested. The decision this week declares the proscription unlawful, but it will be temporarily held in place while the courts wait for the government to appeal the decision.
