A new book called "How to Sell a Genocide" presents detailed research analyzing how the media in the US systematically favored Israel's narrative since October 7th, 2023, in a one-sided, racist, and dehumanizing way. The author, Adam H. Johnson, analyzed over twelve thousand print articles and five thousand video segments from major U.S. outlets, including the New York Times, Washington Post, and the Associated Press, during the first year since October 2023. Among his findings are that the phrase "right to defend itself" was used to describe Israel 94 times more than Palestinians, even though Israel was the original aggressor in the conflict. The term "Human Shields" was used hundreds of times to justify why Israeli soldiers had to kill Palestinians, but there were zero mentions of Israeli military practices that meet the same legal definition. Other findings relate to the use of the term "Hamas-run Health Ministry" by Israeli officials, and the difference in how the media talked about the victims of Russia's invasion of Ukraine compared to the victims of Israel.
