On Saturday, protesters in San Francisco prevented federal agents from carrying out what was likely a trap they had set in order to deport immigrants. Undocumented people in San Francisco received mysterious text messages from the Department of Homeland Security, telling them to come in to an unknown building on Tehama Street for an immigration related appointment. The message said that failing to attend the appointment would result in an infraction. In Massachusets, San Diego, Los Angeles, and other places, the Department of Homeland Security has sent these types of text messages to indocumented people about supposed appointments, only to arrest the immigrants when they arrive. Activists were able to learn that the building, which was completely unmarked on the outside, was used by the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program, or ISAP, which keeps tabs on people who have been previously detained by ICE. When activists began hearing about the text messages on Saturday, protesters went to the building and blocked all the entrances and exits. The office never opened and no appointments, or arrests, took place.
