Monday marks the third day in a row that tens of thousands of Israelis are protesting against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after the bodies of six Israeli hostages were recovered from Hamas. Since October 7th, Netenyahu has refused to agree to a ceasefire deal that would save the lives of the Israeli hostages in Hamas custody, because his only goal is, in his words, "total victory." Since the bodies of six hostages were found executed on Saturday, tens of thousands of Israelis have been protesting in the streets and demanding that Netanyahu agree to a hostage deal. Histadrut, Israel's government trade union, called for a one-day general strike on Monday, shutting down airports, transportation, banks, universities, and most state services. On Sunday, protesters rallied outside Netanyahu's residence in Tel Aviv and blocked freeways, where they were attacked by police. According to Israeli news agency Haaretz, police beat and arrested protesters for "no apparent reason." There is much controversy about whether Hamas was responsible for the executions, especially among people in Arab countries.
