Description

We often hear that we are all created equal. And when it comes to human worth, dignity, and opportunity, that idea matters.

But when it comes to ability, temperament, intelligence, physical traits, emotional capacity, and neurological wiring, we are anything but identical.

In this episode, I explore why accepting that reality can actually be freeing.

Some people are naturally gifted athletes. Others have an unusual ability to process information, recognize patterns, communicate, lead, create, connect, or operate under pressure. These differences can dramatically influence the paths available to us and the outcomes we are capable of creating.

The problem begins when we compare ourselves to people who may be playing an entirely different game.

We are constantly told that if we just work harder, adopt the right habits, follow the right system, or want something badly enough, we can achieve the same results as anyone else.

But life is more complicated than that.

Effort matters. Discipline matters. Environment matters. Opportunity matters. Luck matters. And natural ability matters too.

This episode is about understanding your own strengths and limitations, identifying the gifts you have been given, and putting yourself in environments where those gifts can have the greatest impact.

Instead of asking, "Why am I not like that person?" perhaps the better question is:

What am I unusually equipped to do, and am I doing enough with it?

In this episode:

The goal isn't to become someone else.

The goal is to fully understand who you are, develop what you've been given, and see how far you can take it.
