The hosts delve into the addictive nature of stress for some individuals. They explain that our bodies have a natural response to stress known as the fight or flight response, which prepares us for action in dangerous situations by releasing stress hormones. However, some individuals can become addicted to this stress response, particularly if they experienced stress during childhood.
The hosts suggest that these individuals may unconsciously seek out stressful situations because they have become accustomed to the fight or flight response. They explain that when things are too peaceful or relaxed, these individuals may feel the need to disrupt the calm and return to a state of stress. This perpetuates stress patterns and potentially contributes to the development of chronic conditions.
Additionally, the hosts mention that some individuals use busyness as a means to avoid confronting underlying issues and emotions. Constantly staying busy serves as a distraction from dealing with unresolved matters and provides a narrative of importance and productivity.
