In this episode Mellisa Sevigny will take you on a thrilling and dangerous ride down the Grand Canyon as she talks about her new book Brave the Wild River: The untold story of two women who mapped the botany of the Grand Canyon. What made this trip so unique were the two women scientists who planned this project in 1938 at a time when there was no support for women in the field of science, meaning that getting funding was almost impossible. On the river there were different physical challenges that the six members of the team faced, all of them amateur river runners. Veteran river runners and journalists were sure the group would never make it out alive. In this beautifully written book, Sevigny's stories and descriptions flow smoothly like the river itself.
