Is there something about your story that you have long felt a sense of shame or embarrassment around?
That’s how I felt about the fact that, at 25, I went to rehab at a place called Sierra Tucson, to receive support around the PTSD and anxiety I was experiencing after the sudden loss of my brother, Rory, to suicide.
In today’s conversation my Dad, Robert, and I discuss his key takeaways from his time in rehab, and we do so in hopes that whether or not you’ve been to rehab or treatment, you can learn to love those parts of your story that you have perhaps long felt a sense of shame around.
And – to remember that accepting those parts of your story (whatever they may be, all of us have them) is how we more fully embody what it means to love ourselves – and each other.
