Description

Nearly one in three women will experience at least one urinary tract infection by the time they are 24 years old. Half of all women will experience one urinary tract infection during their lifetime.  Most UTIs occur within the lower urinary tract, specifically the bladder (cystitis) and the urethra (urethritis). UTIs may include infection of the bladder/lower urinary tract and infection of the kidney/upper urinary tract.  Cystitis is when there is no concern that the infection has extended beyond the bladder. We consider this to be acute simple cystitis.  When there is concern that the infection has possibly extended beyond the bladder, we consider this to be a complicated UTI.  Recurrent UTIs are defined as at least two urinary tract infections in six months or three in one year.  Tune in to learn more about symptoms, who is at risk for contracting a urinary tract infection, different causes of infection, how to treat and more importantly how to prevent!
