Description

Merging minds and machines has become a reality. You can watch Pager the monkey playing ping pong with his mind by following the link below. It's quite impressive.

The image below shows a Utah array which is currently the most popular chip used in brain computer interfaces. It is implanted using neurosurgery, often being placed near the motor cortex of the brain which controls movement of our limbs. The array has 100 densely packed microelectrodes that can read brain signals and send them to a variety of external devices.

Using brain computer interfaces, people who are paralyzed can scan and select characters on the screen in order to compose speeches, surf the Internet, send e-mail and "speak" through a voice synthesizer. They can control robotic limbs, wheelchairs, and even virtual keyboards, restoring mobility and communication.
