Description

In the quiet heart of the Chesapeake Bay lies the ghost of a town.

Holland Island once held 360 people—church bells, classrooms, ballgames, and watermen who carved a living from the Bay. Within a century, the land itself gave way. Homes were jacked up and ferried to Crisfield and Cambridge. One Victorian stayed behind until 2010, when waves took it for good.

This episode traces the island’s full arc—from its thriving community to the final collapse witnessed by Stephen White, the minister who refused to let it disappear. It’s not a ghost story about people—it’s a ghost story about place, about how subsidence and rising seas swallow memory one tide at a time.
