Episode Summary
As we are in the thick of harvest, this week I talk about comparison. During harvest as everyone is out in the field, it's easy to compare yourself to other farmers and operations. When you see someone else's new piece of equipment or hear about bin busting yields in the field next to yours, it's easy to let those comparison thoughts hit hard. In this episode, I dive into how important it is to stay focused on your own progress and accomplishments.
In this week's episode I share some of thoughts on harvest comparison:
- Watch Your Own Bobber: Keep your focus on your own goals and progress, rather than getting distracted by what others are doing.
- Comparing to Others Doesn't Help: Whether it's equipment or yields, comparing yourself to others often leads to discouragement and serves no productive purpose.
- Compare Current Self to Old Self: Comparing current self to your old self, you can actually measure how far you've come rather than where someone else is. Recognizing your own growth is what truly matters.
- Yields and Success Can Be Deceiving: High yields or visible success don't always tell the full story. Focus on profit per acre and other metrics within your own operation matters more in the long run.
- Everyone Has Their Own Struggles: Even the farmers who seem to "have it all" face unseen challenges. Striving to have what someone else has might mean sacrificing things you value.
- Do Your Best: At the end of the day, the most important thing is to do the best you can with the resources you have. Let go of comparisons and trust that your hard work will pay off in its own way.
