The most common way that people may lose their vision in ocular melanoma is 1) if they have the eye enucleated (completely removed) or 2) as a side-effect of radiation treatment to kill the tumor. We have a visceral fear of the idea of "vision loss", and this tends to be fueled by our eye care providers, what we believe about our vision, and even our ocular oncologists. In most cases, even if there is the rare case of total vision loss in the affected eye, people are able to adapt, adjust and carry on with their lives. Listen on to hear ways to think about vision loss and not let this be the most important worry of your ocular melanoma journey.
