Description

This week, I'm sharing the story behind Waiting For You, a song that evolved over time and took on new life with the help of a legendary mentor—Donovan.

Originally written for an earlier album, the song felt melancholic, almost too sad. Something told me to wait. Years later, while on an island with Donovan—who once helped Paul McCartney shape Yellow Submarine—I played the song for him. He added a few subtle yet powerful lyric suggestions that transformed it into something truly special.

In this episode, I'll take you through that journey, share excerpts from Lyrics and Song Stories and my memoir about my time with Donovan, and reveal which lines were his. Plus, hear the difference between the original demo and the final version.

Tune in for a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process, and let me know what you think!

Waiting for You
by Daniel Isle Sky ©2009

When I first met you
When I first saw you
You told me you would be my tomorrow
Then you left me with a silent sorrow

I'm waiting for you
Waiting for you

Your voice like an angel
Your smile like a drug
Now you're song's singing inside me
I'm wait'n for you to be here beside me

I'm waiting for you
Waiting for you

Staring at the faces that go by
Afraid to look into an eye
Talking to strangers ain't got no choice
Listening for the sound of your voice

I'm waiting for you
Still waiting for you
