On this solo episode of Coffee Talk, I'm introducing the Italian American Word of the Week: Mushad. Mushad is how you say you're feeling low, sad, or emotionally heavy… and it's also what happens when your pasta is overcooked and turns to mush. Either way, nobody wants to stay there too long.
I use Mushad as a way to open up about how difficult the holidays and December were for me, and how easy it is to slip into a mood you don't recognize—or don't want to admit you're in. We talk honestly about depression, how many people quietly live with it, and how exhausting it can feel when nothing seems to help.
This episode is about finding support, reaching for the right people and resources, and learning when to help—and when to accept that you can't fix or save someone who isn't ready to help themselves. You can care deeply without carrying everything.
Real talk, a little humor, and a reminder that feeling Mushad is human—but it doesn't have to be permanent.
