In September 1513, Scotland's King James IV met the Earl of Surrey near Branxton Moor. Scottish pike formations advanced off high ground into boggy slopes, where English bills and longbows bit hard. Flodden ended with a broken host, fallen nobles and a slain king, reshaping power on both sides of the border.
