When President Theodore Roosevelt went to Mississippi in November of 1902 to help settle that state's running border dispute with Louisiana, he took the opportunity to get in a little bear hunting. Shortly thereafter, a Russian immigrant struggled with what to name his new toy - until he read about Roosevelt's little hunting adventure. The rest, as they say, is history.
