Description

At midnight on August 13, 1961, East German forces, backed by the Soviets, began erecting a barrier that would become the Berlin Wall, physically and ideologically dividing East and West Berlin. Over the decades, the Wall became a deadly obstacle to freedom, separating families, prompting daring escape attempts, and symbolizing the Cold War's global tensions.
