On June 23, 1985, the deadliest act of terrorism in Canadian history unfolded in the skies off the coast of Ireland, when Air India Flight 182, a Boeing 747 en route from Toronto to Delhi via Montreal and London, was blown apart midair by a bomb, killing all 329 people on board. Among the dead were 268 Canadian citizens. Until the September 11 attacks on the United States in 2001, it would be the deadliest act of aviation terrorism in world history.
