Throughout his tenure with Dignity Health, Rudy has demonstrated unwavering dedication and
visionary leadership, guiding teams to develop innovative programs and achieve prestigious
certifications. Under his leadership, the East Valley teams successfully attained certifications for Chest Pain Center, Orthopedic Joint Commission Hip and Knee Replacement Center of
Excellence, and Geriatric Hip Fracture Center, significantly advancing the standard of care for
our patients. With the support of the East Valley Foundation Apodaca helped launch the East
Valley Sports Medicine Program with Athletic Trainers embedded in numerous East Valley
School districts.
Rudy has always been deeply committed to stroke care, advocating for patients and their
families. His leadership was instrumental in achieving Primary Stroke Certification for both
Chandler and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers. Additionally, his collaboration with the East Valley
Foundation led to the launch of the annual Stroke Camp, as well as the Hippotherapy Program,
a unique initiative utilizing horseback therapy to aid stroke survivors in their rehabilitation
journey.
His passion for advancing cardiac care has been evident throughout his career. Working closely
with Dr. Roger Bies, Rudy played a pivotal role in introducing cutting-edge cardiac technology,
including the installation of the first 64-Slice CT Scanner and the development of protocols for
Emergency Department utilization of Cardiac CTA Angiography.
Beyond his clinical and operational leadership, Rudy is very proud of his service to the
community. He has served on multiple community boards including: Improving Chandler Area
Neighborhood (ICAN), Chandler Education Foundation, Gilbert Talks, Gilbert Chamber
Leadership, Queen Creek Chamber Board, and Gilbert Medical Campus Association Board. He
is a founding member of the East Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and serves as Board
Chair.
In speaking with Rudy, one of the things he is most proud of is the people he has had the
privilege of working with and the opportunity to mentor up and coming Leaders. As a servant
leader, he has always tried to prioritize the needs of others above his own, commenting that
serving others has enriched his life and helped make our organization better.
Rudy's legacy of leadership, innovation, and service will undoubtedly continue to inspire future
generations of healthcare professionals. His contributions have left an indelible mark on Mercy
Gilbert Medical Center, Dignity Health East Valley, and the broader community.
