In this episode, I speak with former Streatham Redskins, Solihull Barons, Nottingham Panthers and Peterborough Pirates forward Graham Waghorn — better known as "Wags".
Born in Ontario, Graham learned to skate at three before moving to the UK at age eight. Coming through the Streatham junior system, he made his senior debut for the Redskins at just 15 and later represented Great Britain at U16, U18 and U21 level.
Graham reflects on spells with the Solihull Barons and a brief return to Canada with the Moose Jaw Warriors, cut short by a transfer fee that forced his return to the UK. He then famously engineered his own move to the Nottingham Panthers, where he spent eight seasons across the Heineken League and SuperLeague eras.
He discusses playing under Alex Dampier, Mike Blaisdell and Kevin Murphy, and the memorable characters inside the Panthers dressing room. After a final SuperLeague season in 1997–98, Graham finished his career with a short spell at the Peterborough Pirates before retiring.
Now settled in Nottingham, Graham remains closely connected to the city where he spent the majority of his hockey career.
