In this opening episode, I introduce Old Time Hockey UK — a podcast celebrating the emotion, passion and memories that define ice hockey in the UK.
I'm Ken Abbott, a lifelong hockey fan since 1982 and proud Nottingham Panthers supporter, who's experienced every high and low the game throws at you from the stands. Beyond fandom, I spent years in the hockey business — opening retail Hockey Shops in Sheffield, Manchester and Nottingham in 1993, followed by the online store CrazyKennys in 2000, before stepping back in 2015.
Fuelled by a love of hockey history and storytelling, Old Time Hockey UK was created to give players from the past a platform to share their memories, untold stories and behind-the-scenes moments that fans love to relive. First launched in September 2014, the podcast reached 45 episodes by January 2018 and continues to grow.
Episode 2 features former Marc Twaite, who reflects on life at the old Nottingham Ice Stadium, being released by his hometown club, and the fierce rivalry with the Sheffield Steelers.
🏒 A podcast by fans, for fans — preserving UK hockey's past, one story at a time.
