Description

Former Solihull Blaze, Nottingham Panthers, Sheffield Steelers, Coventry Blaze and Milton Keynes Lightning defenceman Steve Carpenter joins the show to reflect on a UK career that was meant to last one season, but stretched into nine unforgettable years.

Arriving from North America to join Solihull Blaze, Steve recalls a talented but financially troubled side under Paul Thompson, where unpaid wages even led to fan bucket collections. He then enjoyed three successful seasons with Nottingham Panthers under Mike Blaisdell, winning the Norwich Union Cup and finishing runner-up in league and cup competitions.

A move to Sheffield Steelers reunited him with Blaisdell and delivered a career highlight—the club's famous 2000–01 Grand Slam. Steve also addresses the "Battle of Lower Parliament Street", setting the record straight on his role in the infamous clash.

Further success followed with Coventry Blaze, where he won League and Playoff titles under Paul Thompson while beginning a new path off the ice that led into teaching. Steve finished his UK career with Milton Keynes Lightning, signing off in style with a League and Playoff double.

What began as a short stopover became a life-changing chapter—both on and off the ice.
