竹釘は皮目を上にうつぞかし、皮目を下になすこともあり
takekugi wa kawame o ue ni utsu zo kashi kawame o shita ni nasu koto mo ari
Place a bamboo hook with the skin of the 'boo up and pith facing down;
But at times it may suit to swap them the other way 'round
