Shoot For The Bullseye and You Just Might Land On The Target

If expectations are the target’s bullseye, then disappointment is the archer’s errant arrow. But missing the bullseye doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve missed the target. And even if you miss the target sometimes, you’re still looking in the right direction. Letting go of expecting to hit the bullseye every time is a permission that we should, and must, grant ourselves.

From the mundane to the extraordinary, coming to expect certain outcomes can quickly become a slippery slope. We try to stay mindful of our actions and avoid doing harm to others. Finding small ways to maintain consistency in life is a great way to feel like you’re hitting the target every day, even if you don’t always hit the bullseye. For us, staying committed to a health-promoting lifestyle full of exercise and fueled by a whole foods plant based diet allows us to remember that we treat or minds and bodies with love.

We aren’t perfect (wouldn’t it be boring if we were?) and there are always things we want to improve upon. Still, it’s a wonderful feeling to go to bed at night knowing that we’ve treaded this earth just a little bit lighter, or helped someone out with a little extra favor, or made someone smile who maybe needed it a little more than we did. In short, the little things make all the difference, every day.

One of the things we are most proud of is empowering others to start making small changes in their life that lead to ripple effects of positive changes all around them. It brings joy into our hearts when we spend quality time with our dear friends Kate, Keith and Elisabeth who have all gone plant based over the last one to two years.  The journey has revealed answers to questions they never even thought to ask, and they’ve realized there’s no going back. We introduced Kate and Keith on The Plantiful Podcast in December 2017, and we are delighted to have them back for this special reflection episode - this time joined by Keith’s daughter Elisabeth “EB” Tharp, and incredibly impressive, thoughtful and articulate Generation Z’er.

Whole Foods Plant Based Diet vs. Vegan

We hash out the differences between what it means to be “whole foods plant based” versus the broader term of being vegan. If you enjoyed our interview with Dr. Michelle McMacken, we hope you enjoy the every day realities that or guests reflect about our social fabric around food. Our conversation dials into why we all transitioned to a vegan lifestyle, even though the reasons and paths were different for each of us. We are so proud of our friends who are committed to a life of compassion for themselves, animals, and the environment, in an effort to push for bigger changes by actively making positive decisions everyday.

We are far from perfection, in fact we’re a pretty motley crew, but we can personally attest  that reducing harm while adding healthy changes has drastically improved the quality and purpose of our lives, and the people with whom we choose to share it. Perhaps the secret isn’t just being finding simple pleasures in consistently hitting our targets, but also with whom we are sharing the field with when we step up to the line, take aim, and launch our arrow.
