“17 years ago was my first week in prison and I was trying to figure out why the universe placed me there…First, I realized I could no longer contribute to this billion dollar industry that’s doing all of this killing of animals. But not just that, I could no longer put that poison and negative energy into my body – my body is a temple. And third, what I was in there for to begin with, for pumping poison, and being a person that sold poison was not the right thing to do. So at that point, I decided to do a hard reset and eliminate any type of thing that had to do with any type of harm, whether it had to do with animals or humans.”
That is the moment, on his knees in his prison cell 17 years ago, when Dominick Thompson realized that in order to change anything, he needed to change everything. The journey begins with mindset.
Dominick raises awareness by being the voice for the voiceless. Whether he is exposing ethical dilemmas, calling out a celebrity for disrespecting other creatures, or sharing his badass “prison style” approach to working out, Domz is a force to reckon with. No person or industry can stop this man from speaking his mind. And how does he fuel all these powerful channels of energy? Fruits and veggies, of course! Dominick possesses the traits of being highly in tune with himself, trusting his instincts, and cultivating a growth mindset. He survived, when all odds were against him. In fact, he thrived when he found rock bottom. He’s the kind of guy that does well under pressure, and certainly the one you want to have in your corner of the ring.
In the time between his street days in Chicago and now working full time as an activist and entrepreneur, Dominick moved up the ranks in corporate America’s health care system. Ultimately he decided that he needed to follow his intuition and left behind those comforts offered by his corporate job. No matter where or when, one thing is clear, Dominick is always growing and moving up in the ranks. He is a living breathing example that “perfection” is not the end goal. Rather, an unrelenting growth mindset and fierce determination are the keys to success.
Finally, the vegan stereotype is often portrayed as a skinny white guy or girl who fusses over food. Given Dominick’s unabashed desire to reveal the truth, it’s no surprise that he has also made it his mission to shatter the image of the stereotypical vegan. He’s an African American who served his time in prison. However, he discovered his journey toward health and wellness through compassion and a plant based diet. Therefore, Dominick is a human representation of the intersection that turns these 2 sets of stereotypes on their heads. He continues to pave the way forward for many curious newcomers as a natural born leader and an inspiring role model.
Stay tuned for more to come from Dom, as he prepares to launch a gym, running club, cookbook, children’s book, podcast and documentary. We hope you enjoy our conversation with Dominick as much as we did, and we look forward to seeing all his new endeavors to come to fruition.
