Although she pretty much lives a plant based lifestyle, Lisa Weinert was not on the Plantiful Podcast to talk about veganism. We discuss the topic of storytelling and how writing can help overcome challenges and heal from trauma to ultimately transform lives. In many ways, identifying one's own personal story through the process of writing and storytelling is a form of catharsis and self-therapy.
Lisa started her career in investigative journalism and publishing, before dealing with and overcoming a health scare which ultimately led her to yoga. In 2014, Lisa completed her 500 hour yoga teacher training at Yoga Works. There, she fell in love with the powerful healing that can be achieve through restorative yoga. In 2016, she founded the Narrative Medicine program with the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in New York state.
Lisa has an incredibly unique approach to storytelling. She combines her writing talent and experience, with restoration and mindfulness. Lisa left us feeling profoundly inspired, and so we began dabbling in writing either in the evening, before going to bed or right when waking up in the morning. Writing and storytelling are some of the first things we learn as children. And yet, they're also some of the most underused and powerful practices to overcome hurdles in life. We hope you feel as inspired as we did when we met Lisa!
