On this episode of "The Business Side of Music", we interview actor, singer, and songwriter John Schneider. Many of you may remember him as "Bo Duke" on the hit TV show "Dukes of Hazzard". He also played Superman's dad as "Jonathan Kent" on the television series "Smallville", along with dancing his way thru "Dancing with the Stars". However, what you may not know is that John is an established recording artist with close to 20 albums to his credits and 4 #1 singles on the Billboard Country chart. Last year, he launched an ambitious 70-song project, titled "The Odyssey", releasing more than a song a week throughout 2018. He also released his Greatest Hits album that same year.
John discusses how writing a song is more than just hooks and lines. It's about telling a story and taking the listener along for the journey.
Other facts about John:
- John currently stars as "Jim Cryer" on the hit series, Tyler Perry's "The Haves and the Have Nots" - the #1 primetime series on cable on Tuesday nights!
- John had an incredible experience on ABC's Dancing with the Stars with pro partner Emma Slater. He was eliminated on Nov. 5 after 7 weeks of competition. He returned for the finale (Nov. 19) for a live performance of his latest single, "Walk A Mile In My Shoes."
- John co-founded the Children's Miracle Network - a non-profit organization that raises funds for children's hospitals, medical research, and community awareness of children's health issues. Founded in 1983, they have raised more than $4.7 billion dollars which are distributed directly to a network of 170 hospitals.
