The following is an outline of the Repair Dialogue, a technique mentioned in the podcast, for you and your partner to practice after a break or Recess to repair a rupture. You and your partner finish the following sentences and take turns listening to each other's responses.

"My contribution to the nightmare (argument) was ..."

"What I did to make this nightmare (argument) worse was ..."

"What I could have done differently ..."

"What I will do differently next time is ..."

The above directions provide not only a foolproof way to reconnect, but has a positive side effect - it causes maturity. Speak only about yourself. Say nothing about your partner. If you can change your own behavior you can change the conditions of your life.
