Description

Today we are going to be talking about career burnout.

First let me tell you a little about me. I am a  licensed psychotherapist,a  social worker, a hospice chaplain (former), and spiritual counselor. I have worn many hats and have felt the very things I will discuss with you today.

I worked in the healthcare industry for over a decade. Around 8 years into  my career I was being met with extreme exhaustion, ambivalence and the general feeling of a meltdown. I was no longer invested in my work. It was almost like an existential crisis.

Maybe, during your years working on your degree you felt you had made the perfect plan. Years later as you are working in this field you feel as if you truly made a poor choice. Maybe you feel as if you have to show up and perform just to make ends meet. Oftentimes you are met with a level of exhaustion. You can identify with it and you feel it is the status quo.You may feel you have to go home and simply cope with the day's events to get by.

This can look like more drinking, over eating, or even sleeping too much. You are not filling the cup you are easily pouring from to complete your daily work.

Consider this: As much as you give you should receive. This is the law of reciprocity

We have to be fueled and our cup  refilled as we empty the cup. This can be currency but it can be our health care. It does not always have to come in the form of currency. Filling your cup is a matter of your self care.

What is the one thing that you can implement to keep your cup filled as you give yourself to your career

Do it at the beginning, midday, evening and at night before you go to sleep. This may be a book, a meditation, or even prayer. Whatever your daily self care is, it is vital to help refill that cup!
