On episode seventy-one of The Brothers Brandt Podcast, iconic sportscaster Verne Lundquist shares how a sports-loving kid from Duluth, Minnesota became the ‘Golden Voice’ of college football, college basketball, NFL, NBA, Olympic games, PGA Championships and our favorite, The Masters. Verne’s contagious enthusiasm has led him to become one of the most prominent and recognizable on-air talents in sports history. Verne has worked alongside our podcast friends Jim Nantz and Bill Raftery and also other legends such as John Madden and Pat Summerall to name just a few. One of Verne’s most well-known moments was when he starred as himself in the 1996 movie Happy Gilmore with Adam Sandler, one of the greatest sports movies ever in our opinion. In this podcast interview we ask Verne what it was like to be on the call for Duke’s Christian Laettner’s 1992 buzzer-beater, Jack Nicklaus’s 6th Masters victory in 1986. Tonya Harding's 1994 Winter Olympics figure skating debacle, and Tiger Woods’ 2005 improbable chip-in birdie on the 16th hole, when Verne famously said, “Here it comes...Oh, my goodness!...OH, WOW!! IN YOUR LIFE, have you seen anything like that?” This interview with The Brothers Brandt is a Hall of Fame one, just like Verne Lundquist himself.
