In today’s episode, we will talk about murdered members of the LGBTQIA community. Every attempt has been made to be culturally sensitive and to use the correct terminology. Any errors are completely unintentional. Each member of my team, myself included, considers themselves to be an advocate for the LGBTQIA community, and it is our fervent hope that we have treated these individuals with the dignity and respect they deserve. We are covering the murder of Terri Williams and the UpStairs Lounge fire that claimed 32 lives. Unfortunately, our LGBTQIA+ friends still need allies to help them defend against discrimination. Even today, many cis-gendered, heterosexual individuals believe that AIDS is a punishment from God for being gay. Violence against transgenders is still extremely high, particularly transgenders of color. For more information about how to be an ally, visit glaad.org.
