Description

James Hildreth is a Somerset cricketing legend. Third on the all-time list of run scorers for the west country county James joined us to discuss the key moments of his two-decade career.
The middle order batsman who scored over 27,000 runs in all formats for the county retired in August 2022 has now moved into financial management. He recently set up Hildreth and in this podcast he talked about what his new job involves as the end of the tax year looms. It’s a busy time for James.
We focused on the career highlights of James’s career, a century in his 2nd First Class match against the Worlds’ fastest bowler at the time Shoaib Akhtar in 2004, T20 Blast success in 2005, Champions League excitement in 2011 and a match winning ton with a broken ankle against Nottinghamshire in 2016.
Despite playing for England at junior levels as well as captaining the Lions he never played for the full England side James has no regrets on missing out on International honours. He did take the field as a 12th man in the memorable 2005 Ashes Test series which we hear more about in this episode.
James is still about to put the whites on in 2023 as he has agreed to play for his hometown club Stoney Stratford CC.
A modest county legend who is Somerset through and through.
