Back in mid-July I spoke to Shazia the 21-year-old Afghanistan women’s cricket captain, who fled the turmoil in her country, in the autumn of 2021, on route to safety in Australia to resume her cricketing career.
In this compelling hour-long podcast Shazia talks about her love of cricket, the challenges as a woman she faced playing in an environment where many did not approve and how she escaped from this war-torn area through the help of the Australian Cricket Board.
The young all rounder has now settled in Canberra where she plays cricket for Eastlake Cricket Club. To find out more about how this brave young woman has settled in Australia I was joined on the show by Eastlake Cricket Club’s wicket keeper Carli Eaton.
