The death of Luke Perry, following a massive stroke, is a tragedy. But it’s also left many people perplexed – the actor was just 52 years old, and we typically associate strokes with much older people. In Canada, stroke is the third-largest killer of adults, after heart disease and cancer. About 6 per cent of deaths in Canada are due to stroke.

Toronto runner Scott Matheson is lucky to be alive after he collapsed, vital signs absent, at the finish line of the Chilly Half Marathon on March 3.
The 60-year-old experienced runner was assessed by the Chilly Half Marathon medical response team and determined to have no vital signs.
