TOPIC: Massey Bridge replacement and its environmental impact to the waters around it

Metro Vancouver says they are unable to support the scope and size of the Massey Tunnel replacement plan. Chair Greg Moore says they are opposed because of a lack of consultation and that it doesn’t fit regional planning. Metro Vancouver oversees the Greater Vancouver regional district. Moore also noted the negative impact on farmland and ecological areas.

Naturalist Barrie Alden says it would be an environmental catastrophe if the Massey replacement bridge was built; he says it’s precious habitat and transportation ground for sturgeon that are currently endangered. The river would need to be dredged in various areas to make it navigable for tankers, he says they would have to remove about about 40-50 feet of the riverbed.
