Elif Batuman is the author of the bestselling debut novel THE IDIOT, available in trade paperback from Penguin. Batuman's first book, THE POSSESSED (2010), a collection of comic interconnected essays about the pursuit of Russian literature, was a finalist for a National Book Critics Circle Award. She has been a staff writer for The New Yorker magazine since 2010 and holds a PhD in comparative (mostly Russian) literature from Stanford University.
