Lil Durk, born Durk Derrick Banks on October 19, 1992, is an American rapper and singer from Chicago, Illinois. He is a key figure in the drill movement that emerged from the city in the early 2010s. Durk is the founder and lead member of the collective and record label Only the Family (OTF). He gained a following with his 'Signed to the Streets' mixtape series, leading to a record deal with Def Jam Recordings and the release of two albums before parting ways with the label in 2018. Since then, he has continued to rise in prominence, with chart-topping singles and albums under his belt, including collaborations with other big names in the industry.. His new single "Smurk Carter," set to be released on November 10, is shaping up to be another significant addition to his discography. The track is said to be an homage to two rap icons, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne, indicating Durk's appreciation for the artists who have paved the way in the genre. The cover art for the single features Durk channeling Lil Wayne with a purple camouflage, pointing to the stylistic influences he's drawing from for this release.
