Description

Episode 44 You can help save a child's life when you know how to apply Mental Health First Aid.

Youth Crisis Counselor and Life Coach Dr. Kimberly Bennett joins host Coach Kelly Marie to discuss the growing mental health crisis in our youth, which the National Surgeon General of the United States calls "the next pandemic".

So many people are under tremendous pressure and mental strain, including our youth. Learn about their struggles during this time and how you can help by becoming a mental health first aider.

Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

'ALGEE' is acronym for the 5-Step action plan used to provide mental health first aid:
1) Assess risk; 2) Listen non-judgmentally.
3) Give reassurance and information.
4) Encourage appropriate professional help.
5) Encourage self-help and other support strategies.
