Ep. 69 What's the difference between a mental health condition and a mental illness? A mental health illness has to be diagnosed by a licensed mental health professional or other medical professional. A person cannot diagnose themselves with a mental illness. However, a mental health condition is really any moment in time that someone is dealing with the effects of lower mental health status.
One in five Americans will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime. This includes things like grief, bouts of sadness. Examples of mental health illnesses that I personally have been diagnosed with include major depression and bipolar disorder. The great thing is that healing is possible and anyone can begin their recovery journey when they're ready.
