Timothy Cho was born in North Korea and by the age of 17 he knew that he had to get out - but doing so could have deadly consequences. Growing up, his parents had fled, leaving him behind to a life on the streets as an enemy of the state. After his first failed attempt resulted in his incarceration in a North Korean prisoner camp, Cho successfully made it to Shanghai and then onto the UK.
Cho's story exposes the realities of the Kim dictatorship whilst shining a light on the incredible perseverance and resilience of a man who went from extreme poverty and prison torture to learning English, starting his own family and even working in British Parliament.
Daisy Maskell sits down with Timothy Cho to hear the gripping details of his flee from North Korea and the lessons we can all learn from it.
