In over 11 seasons with South Fremantle he played 243 games, and achieved virtually everything the game at the time had to offer. Stephen is a two time Sandover Medallist, Tassie Medal winner and recipient of five club fairest and best awards. He was named captain of the 1983 All Australian team, and a prominent member of South Fremantle’s 1980 premiership team. In 1995 he was named as an inaugural member of the Fremantle Football Hall of Legends, he is an Australian Football Hall of Famer, he was named at Centre Half Forward in the Australian Football Indigenous Team of the Century, and in 2009 he was named in the ruck and captain of the South Fremantle Football Club's Indigenous Team of the Century.
