Description

A long year in lockdown has given me plenty of time to think of a lot of things. One of those things that I've been spending a lot of time thinking about is how a small city or town, one that is in need of revitalization, should work with a local radio station to develop a public/private partnership in order to sell their city/town/region using the music of independent artists as their "front porch".
We're all familiar with how colleges like to say that athletic programs are the front porch of their institutions, maybe not the most important room in the house but certainly one of their most visible. My crazy idea is centered on a radio station using the music of independent artists as the front porch for the city where the station is based. Similar to how the following communities use art as a way to make people aware of their communities:

Marfa – a robust art scene

Ojai – budding artists and health gurus

Tacoma – indie art galleries

Beacon – largest contemporary art museum in the country
