In "Two Thanksgiving Day Gentlemen" by O. Henry, a kind old man treats a poor young man to a lavish Thanksgiving dinner every year out of tradition. When the old man falls ill one year, the young man, now weak and hungry, goes to eat anyway to keep up the ritual. In a twist of irony, the old man faints nearby from hunger, showing that their acts of charity and pride have quietly reversed their roles.
