Ann talks to Gary Penny a cowboy poet about his poetry and how he got started. Tune in to hear one of his poems and his story.
from Gary Penny, cowboy poet:
I currently work as a self employed entertainer performing Cowboy Poetry and playing harmonica for whoever wants to listen. It don't pay no bills but I meet lots of great folks and have a lot of fun doing it. I have produced two CD's of my work. The first was entitled "TEXAS SILAGE; Cowboy Poetry for the Digestive Tract". As of this posting it had gone "aluminum" selling almost 60 copies. I'm within $400 of breaking even. I've since recorded and released a new CD for 2015 entitled "A Cowboy's Journal". Poems are backed with music by Rich O'Brien and sound amazing. Contact me if you are interested in a copy for only $15. (*I'll never make my money back on this one.) I have also had a number of poems selected for a coffee table book by Arizona Western artist Marless Fellows entitled "A Handshake is Enough". Appearances of importance include the National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration in Lubbock, TX, the Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering in Prescott, AZ, and an open mic appearance at the Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Durango, CO. I have also addressed the Arizona Poets Society in Tucson, AZ. I also perform at retirement centers, churches, and civic clubs.
