When we get a sense of our business' value, we can weigh the options and see what makes sense. If you're overestimating what it's worth, it gives you time to make changes to grow its value before you try to exit only to find you can't. But it also lets us weight other options--if your business is worth more than you estimate, maybe selling and following a new passion is smarter or at least you can take comfort in the fact that when and if you do sell it you can cash out. Either way, by considering it as an option, it opens our minds to possibilities so we can be sure we're making the best decisions possible as entrepreneurs.
