On this episode Ariel is joined by Eileen Vierra, founder and chief creation officer of her company Memory Books By Eileen. She is a professional memory book maker as well as sells memory book supplies and hosts workshops and classes for people who want to create their own scrapbooks and photobooks. She’s been working on her own albums for over 40 years and has been in this industry professionally for 20 years.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Scrapbooking isn’t just gluing pictures into a book, there are digital scrapbooks and even hybrid ones. We can even do workshops over Zoom, not just in person. One of the things that people said in 2020 was that they were so thrilled being able to get together every week to do this over Zoom while they couldn’t go out and see each other during the lockdowns.
Anything creative is therapeutic, it works the right side of your brain, it relaxes you, but reliving your memories is especially therapeutic. I find, especially, that after someone has passed and I make a book for them it helps me process my emotions while I’m making the book. Then I have something I go to to visit that person.
My top tip to preserve our memories: Organize your pictures in one place like your phone or computer, but especially on a cloud system – Forever is a good platform as, unlike iCloud, is allows others to access them if you want them to and they can order prints and canvasses and they guarantee the images will be safe up to 100 years after your death.
BEST MOMENTS
“Not only do we get to relive and enjoy our memories, we get to share them with each other.”
“Our books don’t contain lignin or acids that degrade the pages over time, and we sell protective covers and edges, so the pages don’t get damaged.”
“People have contacted me to say how thrilled they are to get these books, so much so that they’ve invited other people over to see them.”
ABOUT THE GUEST
Eileen Vierra has worked in many different industries, from banking to teaching, and even as a tour guide for T-Mobile Park and the Seattle Mariners. But, through her life, one thing has remained constant: Scrapbooking. She loves creating things that tell a story, that can be held and felt, that are cherished for years to come.
Eileen then learned about Creative Memories where she could create scrapbooks for others. She quickly realized that her business was going to beyond selling products, she wanted to see how to do it for themselves. So, she set up Saturday Workshops for them and later ‘Coffee Crops’ daytime workshops and more recently, Weekend Scrapbooking Retreats.
Eileen considers herself an educator, a scrapbooker, and a facilitator who doesn’t just provide the supplies but shows people how to use them.
