Paul welcomes back general practitioner, health coach, wellness advisor and author, Dr Shan Hussain to discuss the benefits of activity and rest, as seen in his book ‘The Big Prescription’
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What are the benefits to physical activity?
The physical body is designed to be active. There’s a ton of evidence out there supporting the benefits of regular activity and allowing our bodies to move in a physical sense. This includes weight management, cardiovascular and much more.
Most people’s rest levels are not where they should be, so progressively we should be introducing more activity and better sleep so that we can achieve our health goals.
Generally, 7-9 hours of sleep is recommended per night and when we’re trying to fall asleep at night we need to control our breathing. Using the 4-7-8 technique, this can help us get to sleep. 1) Exhale completely through your mouth. 2) Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of 4. 3) Hold your breath for a count of 7. 4) Exhale completely through your mouth, to a count of 8.
BEST MOMENTS
Self-talk - “I need to be strong, I need to be fit, so I need to undertake some kind of activity every day”
“We do need we are making sure that our bodies are getting enough rest on a regular basis so that we can cover from the day.”

ABOUT THE HOST
Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. He definitely subscribes to being one of those mentioned – in the Steve Jobs quote:
“Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
